Public Speaking For Kids

Have you ever noticed how young kids have no fear?

  • They will jump off a tall building without a second thought...

  • They will race down a ski hill never thinking of falling...

  • They will climb a very tall tree just for the fun of it...

Do you know why?

Because they haven't learned to be scared yet!

They haven't been exposed to all the fears and problems faced by us adults.

Kids are supposed to be carefree. Having fun is considered one of their daily "jobs". They have no bills to pay, mouths to feed, or deadlines to meet... Oh to be a kid again!

Now switch back to adult mode for a moment.

Remember how nervous you were when you first learned to speak in front of an audience? You felt like you were going to die during those first agonizing minutes...

Don't let this happen to your kids!

Public speaking is a very important skill you can teach your children early on in life.

You may be thinking to yourself "Public speaking for kids"?

"Why on Earth do my children need to learn public speaking? They don't have important speeches to make or business presentations to conduct."

This is true.

But it's still important to show them how to communicate effectively when they're young.

Learning to communicate well will help them in every aspect of their life, not just the boardroom. They can begin to learn skills that will remain with them as they grow older.

Public speaking for kids has another advantage.

Young children can learn public speaking skills without fear.

Don't wait until your kids are older - when they'll start to worry about all the things that can go wrong.

When they will wonder if they pronounce a word correctly, if the overhead projector will work, if people will laugh at their jokes...

...start teaching them now!

You may be wondering where to start.

Public speaking for kids can begin at school.

School can present many opportunities to teach public speaking for kids.

Encourage your child to give speeches at school ceremonies. Show them some speaking tips they can use during their next show and tell session.

You can even help them write a short thank you speech to present to their teacher on the last day of school!

Family and social gatherings are another great way to teach public speaking to children.

Teach your child skills that will allow him to speak confidently in front of others. Then ask him to give a short speech during your grandfather's next birthday. Or have your child make a toast during the next Christmas dinner.

Your child will learn how to speak genuinely and without fear. And I bet there won't be a dry eye in the crowd!

Turn public speaking into a type of game. Show them how much fun it can be!

Have your son start off by performing a family skit at the next family reunion. Or ask your daughter to recite a funny poem at her sister's birthday party. These are great ways to teach children that public speaking can be fun.

This is something that us adults tend to forget!

As you can see, it's never too early to teach public speaking to kids.

Teach your children public speaking skills at an early age. Be proud as you watch them stand up and speak confidently in front of an audience.

The knowledge you share is a treasured gift that will last them a lifetime.
