Ways To Improve My Relationship
Whether you’ve been with your partner for only months or even several years, you might be asking, “What are ways to improve my relationship?” and you’re not the only one.
There’s always room for improvement, no matter what you’re taking on. Here are some easy ways that you can spot things you – and your partner – can fix.
1. Don’t nag. If you’re a nagger, we’ve got one word for you – STOP! While your honey may deserve it (we’re not arguing there), nagging just isn’t going to get you anywhere, even if you’re in the right.
Try constructive criticism instead – it’s a great communication skill – and tell your partner something you love about them along with where you feel they need improvement.
2. Decide what you can live with, and what you can’t. There are many things that your partner does that upset you, annoy you or downright make you angry. Remember, you can’t change them. You really can’t.
If you do, it’s almost always short lived and leads to a heap of bitter resentment later on down the road. So think about it – are their annoying habits something you can live with? Is it really that big of a deal?
The idea is to accept your partner “as-is.” If you can’t, you should probably think about moving on.
3. Spend time together – and apart. This may sound like a no-brainer, but if you’re asking “What are ways to improve my relationship and keep things positive?” then you’ll need to work out with your partner some times you can spend together doing “couple things” and also times you can spend apart doing your “own” thing.
Both time together and time apart are essential for improving a relationship between two people and helping it grow.
4. Be a little romantic. No, we don’t mean spending hundreds of dollars on dinner at a fancy restaurant or dozens of rose petals on the bed. A great way to improve your relationship is to do small things for the other person, just to be nice. See something for a few bucks at the store you think they would love? Grab it! Give it to them on the spur of the moment, “just because.”
Know their fridge has nothing but ketchup and cola in it? Make them a quick dinner. These little things will go a long way – the catch is, you both have to be doing it.
5. Relax a little. Let the relationship go where it goes – let nature take its course. Yes, you’re probably thinking, “If these are ways to improve my relationship and you’re suggesting I sit back and let it go down the drain, you’ve got another thing coming!”
Listen up – if you’re constantly stressed out about your relationship ending, you’re not going to have the time or energy to enjoy it or improve it. So relax, and take everything in stride.
You don’t have to be a genius to improve your communication skills and your relationship. It does, however, take time, practice and effort. You have to want to improve it.
